Scalp Collection Tubes
The Xploregen scalp collection tube is a pre-sterile, individual-use kit designed for the collection, stabilization, and transport of dandruff samples. It uses a specialized buffer to maintain the integrity of nucleic acids (DNA/RNA) or viral particles.
Key Components & Buffer Function
The Tube: A leak-proof, transparent screw-cap tube (often 13x75mm or 16x100mm) designed to withstand centrifuge speeds and temperature shifts during transport.
The Buffer: * Stabilization: Contains a balanced salt solution (like HBSS) to maintain osmotic pressure.
Protection: Often includes antibiotics or antimycotics to prevent bacterial/fungal overgrowth.
Indicator: May contain Phenol Red, which serves as a pH indicator (the liquid appears pinkish-orange).
The Swab: Specifically designed with a “snappable” shaft. After collection, the swab head is placed into the tube and the shaft is broken at the score line so the tube can be capped securely.
